Winnifred Bernice Penfield, 98, passed away May 19, 2021, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND. She was born August 1, 1922, near Granville, ND, to Andrew and Hulda Strandberg; she grew up on a farm and graduated from Granville High School in 1941. Winnifred attended Minot Business College and then worked at People's State Bank in Velva. She married Jim D. Murphy on January 15, 1944, in Towner. While living in Cando in 1974, Jim passed away. Winnifred moved to Minot in 1979 and worked at First Bank. She married Ferde Penfield in Fargo in 1987. They were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fargo.

Winnifred loved playing whist with her children, yearly family trips, and traveling with Ferde.

Winnifred is survived by daughters, Marilyn Murphy, Fargo, ND; Janet Murphy, Fargo, ND; Nancy Murphy, Minot, ND; and Karla Murphy, Missoula, MT; sons, William (Patti) Murphy, Fargo, ND; and Daniel (Marti) Murphy, Memphis, TN. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer, Carly, Meegan, and Andrew, and four great-grandchildren, McCartney, Gillian, Aiden, and Quinn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Jim Murphy and Ferde Penfield; son, Steven Murphy; brother, Jay Strandberg; sisters, Vera Johnson and Natalie Dygve.
