Wanda Karsten Hummel, age 78 of Fargo, North Dakota, died in her home July 29, 2015 following a 23 year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and received additional care from Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Wanda was born April 6, 1937, in Blue Island, IL to Elva Huneka and Ernst Karsten. Following her graduation from Wartburg College, Waverly, IA, Wanda married Gary Hummel in June 1960. After teaching in Iowa and Minnesota, Wanda taught in Fargo Public Elementary Schools McKinley and Lincoln for many years.

Surviving Wanda are her two sons, Peter Hummel, Fargo, ND and Tucker Hummel, Lincoln, NE; granddaughter, Britni Hummel and her fiancé Matt Laurich, St. Louis Park, MN; four sisters; two brothers; her supportive extended Hummel family; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents; Gary’s parents; one sister; two brothers-in-law and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials include Messiah Hour of Worship, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Lutheran World Relief and Anne Carlsen Center (Taylor Made Living).
