Violet was born May 10, 1921 near Valley City, ND, to John and Alma (Fogelberg) Latt. She grew up on the family farm near Valley City where she also attended school. She later attended the Green Consolidated School in Valley City and Valley City State Business College. Violet moved to Fargo and did secretarial work for several area businesses. She married Robert Hackman on August 31, 1946. Violet retired in 1981.

Violet died December 28, 2014 at Manor Care, in Fargo, ND.

She is survived by one son, David Hackman, Vail, CO; two daughters, Barbara Hackman, Eagan, MN and Denise (Michael) Durkee, Vail, CO; one grandchild, Lyndsay Jo (Matt) Smith, Rifle, CO; and one cousin, Marie (Roy) Scheel, Moorhead, MN.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert, and brother, Wallace.
