Vietta Roggensack

March 5, 1908 — November 23, 2010

Vietta Edith Roggensack, 102, passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, November 23, 2010, after a long, energetic, musical life. She was born March 5, 1908 to Annetta & LA Roggensack in Dogden, (Butte) ND. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Balfour, then Harvey and later, made their home in Fargo. Vietta was active in the Evangelical Church, accepting Christ at a very young age. Playing the piano was her reason for living and she started playing the organ in church when the regular organist was snowed in out of town. She was 11 at the time and told the minister she only knew two songs. He responded "Great, that's what we'll sing!" That started a lifelong love and commitment to music and the church. Vietta graduated from Harvey High School and later, was the reporter for the town paper. She would go down and meet the train to find out who was coming and going and that was the news. As an adult, her career was as a secretary for the Veterans Administration Medical Center. In her retirement years, she volunteered at all the nursing homes doing sing-a-longs and loving every minute. Vietta was active in the Calvary United Methodist Church as an organist and loved teaching children the Bible with a little musical flair. She moved to Riverview Place in 2000, continued her sing-a-longs and was an avid sports fan, especially the Twins. She will be missed by many of the residents who always stopped to hear her play. Vietta is survived by two brothers, Albert (Mildred) Roggensack, Fargo and Mesa and Kenneth Roggensack, Novato, CA; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Roggensack and Dorothy Bernstein; a brother, Carroll Roggensack; sister-in-law, Velma Roggensack; sister-in-law, Molly Roggensack; and brother-in-law, Wayne Bernstein. Many, many thanks to all the staff of Riverview who were like family and showed their love and concern over the years she lived there. She couldn't have lived in a more caring place. Blessing to all the staff and residents of Riverview. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 26, 2010, at Riverview Chapel at 10:00 am. Visitation one hour prior to the service at Riverview Place. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, following the service.
