Obituary

Stanley Ronald Zimmerman, 77, of Fargo passed away on December 16, 2025 while in the company of his four kids.

Stan was born on September 11, 1948, in Elgin, ND to Rudolph and Helen (Baesler) Zimmerman. He grew up on the family farm south of New Leipzig where he learned the value of hard work alongside his three siblings. He graduated from New Leipzig High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1975. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Mary college. In 1975 he married Elberta (Hallen). They had two sons, Mike and Matt; together they shared a love of the outdoors and the Minnesota Twins (particularly that 1987 team). Stan and the boys lost Bert to breast cancer in February of 1989.

In 1990, Stan was united in marriage to Donna Movchan (Becker). Together they created a blended family grounded in unconditional love. Donna brought two children into the marriage, Cari Frisk (Movchan) and Kent Movchan, whom came to know Stan as "Pops". From the very beginning, Stan made it clear that there were no step children, only family. Over the thirty years together, family was the focal point of everything. They shared a deep love of travel, golf and adventures that carried them across the country. St. George, Utah ultimately became a spiritual haven for them, rooted in their shared and profound love of Christ.

After retiring from Basin Electric in 2010, Stan and Donna moved to Fargo beginning a new chapter in their lives. They quickly found a new church home where Stan discovered a meaningful fellowship in men's bible study and through crafting prayer crosses. With retirement in sight, their time together came to a close when Donna passed after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in 2020.

Devastated by this loss, Stan drew upon a profound faith that carried him forward. He remained present for his children and grandchildren whenever possible. Though health limitations began to slow him down, he continued to find joy in life and could often be found behind the wheel of his beloved convertible Mercedes.

Stan will be deeply missed. To describe him in one word, it would be selfless. He lived his life quietly, always putting others first. He never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with warmth and a smile.

Stan leaves behind a proud and loving family. He is survived by Cari (Matthew) Frisk, Fargo and their children Ella, Tia, and Ford; Michael (Jessie) Zimmerman, Bismarck and their daughter Adalyn; Kent (Francesca) Movchan and their children Dominik, Isabella, Giuliana; Matthew (Jodi) Zimmerman and their children Asher and Lane; and sister Janice McAuley.

Stan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna; first wife, Elberta; his parents, Rudolph and Helen; and his brothers, Orville and Marvin.
