Roy Dana Richmond died on February 26, 2009, at his home. He was born to Thomas and Audrey Richmond in Lansing, Michigan, on March 4, 1965. At age two, he moved with his family to Moorhead, MN, and subsequently to Fargo, ND. He attended school at Clara Barton, Agassiz, and graduated from South High in 1983. Roy completed the welding program at the Tech School in Moorhead in 1984. From an early age, Roy loved cars. He enjoyed toy cars as a child, and as he grew older started building model cars. He loved carving, and this offered him an opportunity to create his own model cars out of balsa wood and other carved creations. He spent time at the North Dakota State School of Science studying auto mechanics; thus began his interest in collecting vehicles upon which to work, which continued throughout his life. He became employed at Holsum Bakery in 1985, and worked there for a number of years. He then joined the maintenance and custodial department at Forum Communications Company and remained there until his death. Roy is survived by his parents, Thomas and Audrey Richmond, Fargo; sister, Lisa Richmond, Tucson, AZ; dear friend, Sharlene McIlwain, and his beloved dog, Vonya, Fargo. He also leaves his aunt and uncle, Jean and Bill Chope Jr., of Kalamazoo, Michigan; six cousins and their families, five residing in Michigan and one in Florida; and of course, some very close friends who have expressed that they will miss his warm smile and generous nature. Memorial Service: Thursday, March 5, 2009, 11:00 AM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Mental Health America of North Dakota (MHAND) or the Humane Society.
