Robert Phillip Knight
August 29, 1948 – August 20, 2026
Robert “Bob” Phillip Knight, 77, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Fargo.
Robert was born on August 29, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Robert Phillip Knight and Shirley Warren Knight (Shores). He grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Robert spent nearly his entire career as a claims adjuster with American Family Insurance in Fargo, North Dakota.
Bob married Linda Peterson on September 22, 1973, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Fargo and shared nearly 53 years of marriage. Bob adored Linda and often told anyone who would listen how lucky he was to have her and what a wonderful person she was. He enjoyed surprising her with flowers and thoughtful gifts for no special occasion. Small gestures that reflected his love were very important to him.
Bob loved hockey, skiing, animals, and time spent with his family. He often spoke fondly of playing hockey with friends during his college years and looked forward to taking his family to Red Lodge, Montana, for their annual ski trips. He loved all animals, especially dogs. He had a special place in his heart for their husky, Timber, whom he loved caring for. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and he took great joy in decorating and celebrating the holiday with his family. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, where he generously volunteered his time over the years. He was known for his devotion to his family and his faith.
In his later years, Bob made his home at Edgewood in Fargo, where he was surrounded by kindness and cared for with compassion. His family is deeply grateful to the staff for the comfort, dignity, and support they provided him and Linda.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Knight (Peterson); his daughters, Amy Knight Witte (Bret) and Jennifer Rheault (Jamie); grandchildren, Dayne Byars, Tatum Byars, and Madison Witte, and Isaac and Sylvie Rheault; and his siblings, Katie Searl and David Knight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Phillip Knight and Shirley Warren Knight; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Peterson and Kenneth Searl.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31st, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2900 Broadway N., Fargo, North Dakota, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m.
