Richard George Herring, 83, Casselton, ND, joined his Lord early Monday morning, June 29. The end of his earthly life was spent in his home in the loving care of his family and compassionate ETHOS hospice caregivers who helped to make his transition into eternal life peaceful and dignified.

Richard Herring was born to LeRoy and Mildred (Bergo) Herring on September 17, 1942, in Turtle Lake, ND, the eldest of three children. He grew up on the farm south of Turtle Lake, where he graduated high school.

His entire adult life was spent in a career of health care, first as an x-ray technician, then as hospital administrator, and eventually close to 50 years as a Chiropractor in Lisbon, ND. Richard's outgoing and caring personality made him an excellent health professional as he served others, and made their lives better.

Richard was an avid history buff which contributed to his search for rocks or artifacts in freshly plowed dirt. This love of history also dove-tailed into his deep faith as he read the Bible and participated in Bible studies. He was an amateur pilot and served on airport boards in Lisbon and Casselton, and was an enthusiastic car guy, always looking, shopping, and kicking tires.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Mildred, brother Joel, sister Brenda, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Marlys, children Dawn Herring, Christopher (Gina) Herring, Jacqueline Herring, Brady (Tara) Herring, grandchildren Victoria, Abby, Sophia, Alexandra, Olivia, and numerous extended family members.

The memorial service for Richard will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, July 14, at Olivet Lutheran Church, with a time to visit before and after. Burial will take place later, and will be in the Herring family plot in Turtle Lake, ND.
