Phyllis was born to Elmer and Muriel Johnson in Cannon Falls, Minn. on November 16, 1935. She was raised on the family farm and attended and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in the spring of 1954. Phyllis also met her future husband, Lyle, at Cannon Falls High School, and they were married on October 21, 1954, at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.

In 1961, Lyle and Phyllis moved to Jamestown, ND, where they raised five children. In addition to raising her own children, Phyllis was a daycare provider for numerous years. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, loved to bowl, play bridge, golf, walk with her friends, have coffee with her neighbors, but most of all, she loved having her family around.

In 1992, Lyle and Phyllis moved to Fargo, ND, for Lyle's job, and Phyllis continued to do daycare until they retired in 1999.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Muriel; and her husband, Lyle.

She is survived by her brother, Lawrence (Diann), Red Wing, Minn.; her children, Sheri Peterson (Dennis), Mayville, ND, Kim Ganske (George), Cape Girardeau, MO, Jay (Rhonda), Fargo, ND, Jon (Lyn), Castle Rock, CO, and Karita Shockman (Tom), Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral will be at Hope Lutheran Church, 2900 North Broadway, Fargo, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 10:30 am, and the funeral service will be at 10:30 am.

Phyllis's family would like to thank all current and former nurses and employees at Rosewood on Broadway Care Home for all their kindness and care while our Mother was there!
