Paul Kalvik

October 30, 1967 — April 15, 2025

Paul Berrent Kalvik was born at Dakota Hospital in Fargo on October 30th, 1967 to Jerry Eugene Kalvik and Mary Lee nee Grimes Ivers. Paul started school in North Fargo and moved to South Fargo in fifth grade upon the marriage of his mother to Robert Ivers. Paul would eventually complete his education at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Paul was a gifted musician who excelled at bass guitar and keyboards. He was a self taught musician. He could never read music, but he could play by ear from an early age. His love for music sustained him through good times and bad throughout his entire life. He performed in several bands with various talented high school classmates and family members. His closest friend, Paul Nelson, shared Paul's love for music and the two could frequently be seen jamming together in the basement of his family home on South River Road, or at Nelson's family home. Paul's love for rock and roll could often be heard on warm summer nights emanating from the propped open windows of the basement where large groups of high schoolers would gather around to listen to their band perform.

Paul also loved to do art, enjoyed building go karts, riding bike and mopeds. He also loved anything electrical. He always wanted to understand how things were built. He held many jobs in life and became skilled at most. He lived in various communities throughout his adult life in ND, Iowa and Texas.

He was married twice and most recently to Kristi who's children he truly enjoyed. He never had children of his own, but he cared for Kristi's children as best he could. His other loves were cats, most notably George, Noodles and Chloe.

Anyone who knew Paul knew of his wicked sense of humor. He always put such an interesting spin on everything he described. He was very soft spoken, kind hearted and battled with chemical dependency and depression. Later in his life he dealt with multiple health issues that led to his tragic early passing. As deeply saddened as we are, we find great peace in knowing he's safe, perfect in Gods eyes, and provided for in every way possible. May he rest in peace until we meet again.

Paul is survived by his mother, Mary Ivers; sister, Deborah Nichols (Kalvik); niece, Cassandra (Grant) Bendix; nephews, Alec and Connor Nichols; step-brothers, Dana (Barb) Ivers, Craig (Jennifer) Ivers and Victor Ivers; step-sisters, Laury Ivers, Anna (Rick) Gunderson; maternal aunt, Patricia (Del) Neises; many step nieces, a step-nephew, and many cousins.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Kalvik; stepfather, Robert Ivers; stepsister, Rhonda Ivers; paternal grandparents, Arvid and Odelia Kalvik; maternal grandparents, Clarence (Bud) and Jewel Grimes; and maternal aunt and uncle, Margaret (Bob) Chase.
