Orvis Stockstad

July 22, 1934 — May 26, 2025

Orvis Duane Stockstad, age 90, died on May 26th, 2025 at his home at Whitefish at the Lakes in Crosslake, MN.

Orvis was born on July 22nd, 1934 to Anna and Hjalmer Stockstad and was raised on a farm in Milnor, ND, along with his sister Marion and brothers Gordon and Roger. He graduated from Milnor High School and later attended Business College. Orvis married Diane (Lunneborg) on March 25th, 1956 and had two children, Kimberly and Corey. They made their home in North Fargo.

Orvis worked in the heavy equipment industry, and as president led General Equipment & Supplies until his retirement. His business partners describe him as honest, hard-working and caring.

Orvis and Diane were long-time members of Hope Lutheran Church, where Orvis could be found ushering, directing traffic in the parking lot or lighting candles with his grandkids for the Christmas Eve service. Orvis and Diane had a lake home on Little Pelican Lake, a place of many keepsake memories for their family and friends. He was a loyal Bison football fan. Following his retirement, Orvis and Diane spent time in Yuma, Arizona, where they enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, building doll houses, and avoiding ND winter weather.

Orvis was delighted by babies and young children and his grandkids and their children were a tremendous source of joy to him. He would tell you that the most important things to him were his faith and his family. And that’s exactly what his life spoke, generously and with great love.

Orvis is survived by his children, Kimberly (Don) Olson and Corey (Lynne) Stockstad; five grandchildren, Jarrett (Sarah Hendrickson) Olson, Jordan (Emma St. Germain) Olson, Sam (Abby) Stockstad, Hannah (Roeder) Camrud, and Noelle (Ryan) Ames; great grandchildren, Levi, Finn, Lenny, Sage, Olive, Rogan, Theo, Palmer, Easton, Ollie and Remy; and his brothers, Gordon and Roger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his parents; and sister, Marion.

A private family service will be held at a future date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center.
