Myldred Wigdahl

Myldred M. Wigdahl, 91, Fargo, ND died Monday, July 11, 2011, at Bethany Retirement Living Services, Fargo. Myldred Mary Buffington was born to Charles and Leona (Golly) Buffington on September 22, 1919, in Lac Qui Parle County, MN. She graduated from high school in 1937. She attended nursing school for one year and worked for the Welfare Office. She worked for many years at St. John's Hospital in Fargo until her retirement in the early 1980s. She married Melvin L. Wigdahl in December 1940 in Moorhead, MN where they lived until 1942. From 1942-1945 she lived in Watertown, SD while her husband served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge they moved to Moorhead, MN. They moved to Fargo in 1951 where they raised their seven children and were members of Elim Lutheran Church. Her interests included baseball--especially the Minnesota Twin--playing (and mostly winning) Scrabble and daily crossword puzzles. However, of utmost importance was her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children; LeRoy (Sandra), Blair, NE; Georgia (Rob) Graves, Madison, WI; Margaret "Peggy" (James) Haugrud, Hickson, ND; Margery (Dick) Koster, Walnut, MS; Ronald (Kate), Colorado Springs, CO; Susan Harvey, Fargo, ND; Kathryn (Joseph) Card, West Fargo, ND. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1969, her parents, 5 siblings, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-grandson and 1 son-in-law. Myldred's family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Retirement Living, with a special thanks to Carol Sue and Carol and especially Joe, her CNA who provided great care, comfort and emotional support to her and her family moments before her death. The family would also like to express their thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley. GO TWINS! The family requests that any memorials be given to Meals on Wheels or Hospice. A special thanks to her neighbor Harold Quinnild and to Matt, her baseball buddy, now deceased, from Elim Lutheran Church. Memorial Service: Friday, July 15, 2011, at 3:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service. Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
