Mathilda (Tillie) Zimmerman, Fargo, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living.
Mathilda Helena Werre was born April 17, 1916 in Tappen, ND, where she grew up on a farm and attended country school. On September 13, 1936, she married Jacob Zimmerman. They farmed a few years before moving to Napoleon, ND in 1941. In 1947 they moved to Fargo, ND. Tillie was a stay at home mother until 1961, when she began working at (St. Lukes) MeritCare Hospital.
She worked there for 22 years, retiring in 1983. After retirement she did volunteer work in numerous nursing homes and her church. After having a stroke, she was no longer able to volunteer at the nursing homes, but was able to help make quilts and kits for Lutheran World Relief. She loved making quilts, working in her garden and her involvement with Lutheran Women Today. She became an honorary member of her circle when she entered Bethany Home Assisted Living.
Tillie had been an active member of Peace Lutheran Church since 1947, teaching Sunday school and Bible school. She was active in quilting circles, sang in the choir and assisted with many other church functions.
She is survived by one son, Wayne (Barbara), Rapid City, SD; three daughters, Marian, Brenda (Terry) Thompson, both of Fargo, ND; Donna (Larry) Bergegaard, Lake Park, MN; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob, her parents, four brothers, six sisters, nieces and nephews.
