Mary Alice Vickers, the oldest of four children, was born to Mary (Nana) Lema and James William Vickers on May 13, 1924 in Lowell, MA. She grew up in East Providence, where she graduated from High School at age 18. She was employed as a typist with Automobile Insurance of America.
At the YMCA dance, Mary met Donald Gibb of Fargo, ND, who was in the Navy, stationed at Davis Field in RI. They were united in marriage on April 21, 1945 at the Providence Episcopal Church. When the war ended they moved to Fargo, ND where Don joined the Gibb family Plumbing and Heating business. Mary worked part time as a bookkeeper for the business and for a time as bookkeeper and teller at the 1st National Bank on Broadway.
Mary became a stay at home mom who enjoyed summers at Pelican Lake with her four young children. She learned how to be a good mother as a young girl, caring for her younger siblings, while both of her parents worked. Mary was always lighthearted and happy, enjoying life to the fullest. She was a great cook and hosted many holiday dinners for family and friends. Mary and Don traveled to Europe several times to visit her England relatives. They spent their retirement years as snowbirds in Arizona. Mary was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed weekly games of Duplicate Bridge with friends at the Fargo Country Club and at Touchmark where she lived for five years. Mary was a longtime member of Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Fargo.
Mary is survived by her children, Steven (Lisa), Rollag, MN; Bradley (Kaylynn), Vergas, MN, and Marsha, Rio Rancho, NM; six grandchildren, Jason (Pam), and Joshua of Moorhead; Lara (Justin) Sagsveen of West Fargo; Ian of Hawley, MN; Scott of CA, Brian of NM, and three great-grandchildren, Claire and Alexander of Moorhead, and Elliana of Hawley; one sister, Irene (Ralph) of Ft. Wayne, IN; and one brother-in-law, George Gibb of Fargo, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Scott; her parents; and two brothers, James and Thomas Vickers.
