Obituary

Marvin Skaarvold, Fargo, formerly of Colfax, ND, died Thursday morning at Edgewood Vista in Fargo. Marvin was born March 4th, 1925 in Hettinger, ND, son of Olaf and Annie (Lokken) Skaarvold. He grew up in Hettinger, Baker, MT, and rural Walcott, ND. He attended Pleasant Consolidated School in rural Walcott and received his diploma in 2002 at the same time as his oldest grandchild, thanks to a North Dakota law that granted diplomas to men and women who didn’t receive them due to military service. Marvin served with Company C 325th Glider Infantry 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. He married Lucille Peterson on October 31st, 1948 at Richland Lutheran Church.

Marvin farmed both alone and with his brother-in-law Earl Peterson and retired in the mid 1980’s. He worked as a school custodian in Colfax, ND off and on for over thirty years. He was active in the Richland Lutheran Men’s Club and the Colfax VFW.

He is survived by his two daughters, Colleen Brown, Grand Forks, ND and Vanessa (Mark) Strobel, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Erin, Matt (Ashley), and Max; and three great grandchildren, Savannah, Carter, and Harper. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, his brother Alvin, his sisters Connie and Olga, his son-in-law Jerry Brown, and his good friend and brother-in-law Earl Peterson.

The family requests any memorials go to the Alzheimer’s Association and Richland Lutheran Church.
