Marlys Elaine Schmidt, born September 3, 1934, died April 23, 2026 at the age of 91. She died peacefully of the natural aging process at home with Hospice and surrounded by family.

She was born in Milnor, ND to Martin and Bernice Riveness. She graduated from High school and moved to California, where she married Perry Hansen and had 3 children: Steve Hansen, Juli Rohde, and Andra Hansen. After moving around for the military with Perry, she was divorced and came back to North Dakota, settling in Fargo. She met Don Schmidt in 1974 and was married. They combined both families and lived in Fargo until their deaths.

She enjoyed buying and selling antiques with Don, making afghans for everyone, and retiring from Scheels Hardware. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and all the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by Steve Hanson of West Fargo, ND, Andra Hansen of AZ, Terry (Judy) Schmidt of Detroit Lakes, MN, Allan (Tamara) of Fargo ND, Tracy Wang (Shane Hoffart) of Yuma, AZ, Deon (Mary) Schmidt of Moorhead, MN; grandkids, Jenny (Dean) Krueger, Amanda Rohde, Tyler (Heather) Schmidt, Tara Schmidt, Hans (Maggie) Ulmer, Leif Ulmer, Eli Hansen, Alyssa Lafrance, Anna (Alex) Kutcha, Nicholas Schmidt, Cole Schmidt, and Mason Schmidt; 25 great-grandkids; 24 great-great-grandkids; sister, Clarice Haats; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Bernice Riveness; husband, Don Schmidt; brother, Clayton Riveness (sister-in-law, Sandy); sister, Gloria Flanders (brother-in-law, Bob), brother-in-law, Ted Haats; daughter, Juli Rohde; and grandson, Ian Ulmer.
