Obituary

Lucille Shirley (Thorson) Konen was born in Detroit Lakes, MN to Albert and Petra (Sjolie) Thorson on November 11, 1919. She moved to Fargo at a young age and attended Horace Mann and Jefferson Elementary, Agassiz Junior High and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1937. Lucille worked as a housekeeper for several families. She also worked as a sales clerk at deLendrecie’s Department Store and as a receptionist at a Fargo clinic.

Lucille married John Konen on June 30, 1949 in Fargo. She enjoyed attending her children’s school and sporting activities and was a Bluebird and Camp Fire Girl leader.

She began working at the Fargo Nursing Home in 1967, eventually becoming assistant activities director. She retired in 1981. After her retirement, she enjoyed summer traveling trips with her husband and daughter. She also knitted baby caps and booties as a Sanford Auxiliary volunteer. Her volunteer work at church included being a member of the Bethlehem Quilters, working to put together the Bethlehem Tidings newsletter, and was the librarian for 25 years.

Lucille died on January 6, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Konen, Fargo; 3 grandchildren; sister, Doris, and 8 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, James, and three sisters.
