Lorraine Esta Ingnell passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar G. Trego on November 2, 1918 near Fenton, Kossouth County, Iowa. At the age of five she moved with her family to the Erie-Arthur community. After graduating from High School at Arthur she became a Telephone Operator at Hunter. On July 16, 1940 she married Clifford C. Ingnell at Arthur. They farmed at Hunter before moving to Fargo in 1956. At Hunter she was active in the United Methodist Church where she served as President of the W.S.C.S., Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Member, Order of the Eastern Star, P.T.A., President of the Hunter Improvement Club. Her more recent roles, as a member of First United Methodist Church of Fargo, have included two terms on the Church and Society Committee, Circle 2 member, various fundraising functions for Churches United for the Homeless, Disciple 1, six years as a volunteer at The V.A. Hospital. In the early days of the amalgamation of the Democratic Party and the Non-partisan League, Lorraine was very active as Cass County Democratic Chairwoman and North Dakota Young Democrat National Committee Woman. She served on a number of Presidential Reception Committees and had maintained an active role. She worked for years for the Kahler Corporation as a Desk Clerk-Cashier and was a partner with her husband and son, Glenn in Madsen’s Jewelry of Fargo for sixteen years until health compelled her retirement. She spent her later years writing and copyrighting lyrics for music and poetry.
She is survived by one son, Glenn C. (ReNee) Ingnell of Bismarck, ND; two daughters, Faye (Steven) Wickham, Billings, MT and Karen Schmick (Tom Wasbotten), Duluth, MN.
After the early deaths of Lorraine’s parents, she and Clifford also raised her two youngest sisters; Maureen - deceased (James) Hobbs, Park River, ND and Myra (Dennis – deceased) Grothman, Fargo, ND.
She is preceded in death by sisters, Lucille (Ted) Rygh, Fargo; Lavilla (Robert) Hill, Frazee, MN and Maureen.
She is survived by Myra and Bernard (Audrey- deceased) Trego, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Aaron (Erin) Ingnell, Lexington, KY, Brittany (Christopher) Wilkinson, Leesburg, VA, Pamela (Ray) Capp and Jeffery (Jen) Wickham, Billings, MT, Colonel Glenn Schmick and (Angela), Ft. Mead, MD and Charles A.L. Schmick, IV (Diana), San Antonio, TX; three great grandsons, Hunter Schmick, Ft. Mead, MD, Taylor and Chandler Wickham, Billings, MT and one great-granddaughter, Haleigh Wilkinson, Leesburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, who passed away in 1986; two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
