Lois Ilene Simmons

December 10, 1935 — August 2, 2017

Lois Ilene (Anseth) Simmons, 81, of Fargo, ND passed peacefully from this world on August 2, 2017 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Lois was born December 10, 1935 in Williston, ND to parents Willard and Myrtle Anseth. In February of 1956 she married Martin Simmons and they went on to have five children.
Lois spent her life serving others and loving her family. After she and Marty were married she joined him in Germany where Marty was serving in the Army. While in Germany they had a child, Marlis, who passed away at the age of three weeks. Marty was honorably discharged from the Army and they came back to the United States to bury and grieve the loss of their first-born daughter.

Lois put her education on hold while Marty pursued his career to become a pastor. Together they would serve under the leadership of God as pastor and wife.

Lois taught piano lessons for 30 years and during that time she went on to finish her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She also worked for the FSA office in Ashley, ND where she retired in 1997. After Marty retired they spent several winters going south to Arizona for the winter.
Lois dearly loved her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read, swim, knit, play games, visit and reminisce with family and friends.

Lois’ devotion to Marty and his career was endless. She played piano and organ for the church. She sang in the choir, started a youth choir and participated in many Bible studies and church groups. She was a true disciple of the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Marlis.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Simmons; son, Bill (Julie) of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Bob (Cheryl) of Fargo; daughter, Nancy (Scott) Mueller of Fargo; daughter, Cynthia (Terry) Baumann of Halliday, ND; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Nan (Glenn) Goehring of Fargo; sister, Mary (Mark) Lind of Princeton, WI along with several nieces and nephews.
