Lester Shook

Lester D. Shook, 86, of Fargo died Friday, November 23, 2007 at MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Lester was born to Lester and Corienne (Eberhardt) Shook on March 18, 1921 at Anamoose, ND. He graduated from High School in Drake, ND and went on to graduate from Jamestown College in 1942. He also attended UND and the University of Illinois School of Medicine, graduating with an M.D. in 1947. He worked as a chemist during World War II from 1942 – 1943. He served in the Army, Navy and the Marines. He was an instructor of physics at Jamestown College from 1943 -1944. He interned at Bethesda Hospital in St Paul, MN from 1947 – 1948. He finished his radiology residency in Kansas City, MO in 1953. He was a physician in Riverdale, ND, from 1948 – 1950. From 1950 – 1955 he served as a physician at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. He worked as a radiologist at the Fargo Clinic from 1955 – 1967 and in Jamestown from 1968- 1969. He returned to Fargo to finish his career in radiology. He taught radiology technologists and medical students for many years and was a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. He married Ann Bergeson on December 26, 1942 in Bismarck, ND. She died February 8, 2006. Lester loved woodworking, photography, music, basketball, football and track. He was an active member in many professional and community organizations including FM Sertoma Club, El Zagal Shrine, Elks Club, Scottish Rite, R.S.N.A., Fargo Theatre Big Band All Stars, Shrine Band and Jazz Arts. He served on the Boards of Red River Human Services and Red River Dance. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Jazz Arts and Trollwood. He was an example of excellence and optimism for his immediate and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann; and sister, Betty LaQua. He is survived by three sons, Dale (Mona) Shook, Fargo, ND; Dick (Lee Carpenter) Shook, Niantic, CT and Robert (Sue) Shook, Fargo, ND; daughter, Betsy (Al) Baker, Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral: Monday, November 26, 2007 at 7:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND. Memorials are preferred to Jazz Arts and Trollwood.
