Leo Mittleider, 93, Fargo, ND died Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.

Leo was born to Fred and Bertha Mittleider on September 2, 1933, in Kidder County, Tappen, ND. He attended school through grade six at a country school near Tappen, ND. He spent two years in the US Army. Upon discharge, he worked at various jobs from October 1956 to February 1958. He also worked on a farm at Harwood, ND from March 1958 to October 1959. In November 1959, he began working for the John Deere Co., and took an early retirement in May 1986. From July 1986 to January 1987, he worked part-time for the Fargo Implement Co. He worked for Courier Dispatch Co. of Fargo from November 1987 to March 1989.

Leo married Loretta Schock on October 20, 1957 at Cleveland, ND. The couple lived in Tappen before moving to Harwood, ND, Moorhead, MN, and settling in Fargo, ND.

Family was the most important thing to Leo. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in the food he was able to share with family and friends. Leo loved fishing and camping with family and friends. He enjoyed a good game of cribbage with his family. Later in life he found the love for baking. He made a mean chocolate chip cookie. He shared his love of baking with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved baking with him. He also made the best potato salad.

He is survived by three daughters, Leatta Mittleider (Jeff Dennis) Fargo, ND, Lynette Mallick, Fargo, ND, and Lola (Gary) Keller, Fort Myers Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Jacob Mallick (Allie), Molly Mallick (Brandon), and Alexandria Mallick (Matt), Fargo, ND, Kayla (Derek) Benhardus, Fergus Falls, MN, and Justin (Sarah) Keller, Dent, MN; 7 great grandchildren, Ellie, Gracie, Addie and Cole, Fergus Falls, MN. Rilynn, Kinley and Makenna, Dent, MN; two sisters, Viona Zimmerman, Jamestown, ND and Darlene Simonson, Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta; infant son, Larry; his parents; one sister, Delilah Roesler; and three brothers, Elton, Clarence and Melvin.
