Leo Groothuis, 93, of Fargo, ND, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND.

Leo William Groothuis was born August 23, 1923 to William and Marie (Uttermark) Groothuis in Clara City, MN. He attended school in Clara City and worked on his family’s farm. He married Gladys Ranger on September 23, 1944 in Watertown, SD.

Leo and Gladys made their home in Montevideo, MN for 2 years after which they moved to St. Cloud, MN. They moved to Fargo, ND in 1958 and spent the rest of their lives there.

Leo was a truck driver, and drove truck until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards and watching ball games. He also loved spending time at family get-togethers and people-watching.

Leo is survived by his children, Karen Sande, Fargo, ND; William (Sheila) Groothuis, N. Las Vegas, NV; Jeffery Groothuis, West Fargo, ND; Pamela (Danny) Aune, Lake Park, MN; Susan (Barry) Hendrickson, Wahpeton, ND; siblings, Eleanor Stager, Arleen Bussian, Ednabelle Kuehl, Carol Groothuis, and Robert Groothuis; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Gladys; parents; sons, Gary, Ronald, and Jerry; son-in-law, Martin Sande; siblings, Lola Kranz, Phyllis Kranz, Mary Kawell, Julene Howard, and infant brother, Lyle.
