Leighton Eugene Bergland, 78, of Fargo, ND, passed away Friday, November 25, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Leighton was born May 31, 1932 in Hawley, MN, to Ernest Clifford and Eveleth Mildred (Jore) Bergland. He grew up in rural Hawley and graduated from Hawley High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957-1959 and belonged to the VFW in Fargo. Leighton was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Before retiring, Leighton worked for 21 years as a general maintenance worker at Moorhead State University. He had a lifetime interest in history, especially the Civil War era. Leighton is survived by his sister, Arlene (John) Feight of St. Louis Park, MN, and nephews, Scott (Colleen), Kevin (Jennifer), Mark (Jeri), and Julie Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara. Memorial Service: Monday, November 29, 2010, at 1:00pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
