Obituary

Larry Mayer died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in his home under the care of his family and HIA Hospice.

Larry was born March 21, 1949, in Elgin, ND to Melvin and Irene (Haase) Mayer. He was baptized into his Christian faith November 13, 1949. He spent much of his childhood in Bismarck, ND before moving to West Fargo, ND as a teenager. He graduated from NDSU. While working on his studies, he put together a plan for a ski hill at Toad Lake in Minnesota. He developed the plan to the point where he began working with several Fargo area developers to build and finance the project. Much was accomplished towards this goal, but the economic downturn in the 1980’s tabled the project. Downhill skiing was Larry’s joy which he shared with his children, grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Larry was married to Patricia Dodge who passed away in November 1984. He later married Kathi Arenson in August 1985. Together they had three children: David, John, and Anne. He enjoyed coaching their soccer teams and going to their games. He taught them all to ski by the time they were 5 years old. He also encouraged them in their faith walk and worked to set an example for them of a Christian life.

Larry grew in and shared his faith in Jesus through attending and leading many Bible studies at his church, through Bible Study Fellowship, Promise Keepers, and Colson Fellows. He always looked forward to learning more about his God and encouraging others in faith toward Jesus.

Larry was a developer of ideas at heart. This was evident through his ski hill project, and the creation of his own business which focused on cost effective energy solutions for businesses and homeowners. He developed many unique products in this endeavor. At his core, Larry always sought to help others and saw the best in people.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kathi; sons, David (Lindsay) Mayer, John (Ilse) Mayer; daughter, Anne (Ben) Ross; grandchildren, Lilliana, Isabella, Luke, Louis, Hannah, Micah; sister-in-law, Pat Mayer; brother, Floyd (Karen) Mayer; sisters, Colleen (Jim) Flores, Cindy (Joe) Beckmann; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; parents, Melvin and Irene Mayer; brother, Clyde Mayer; and grandson, Theodore.

A Prayer Service and a time of sharing will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The funeral will be on Wednesday, February 18 at 1:00 pm. Both with be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1000 14th Avenue South in Moorhead, MN.
