Larry C. Madson of Fargo, ND, passed away on September 6, 2025 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 8, 1955 in Fargo to Leslie and Hazel (Rekken) Madson,
Larry was baptized & confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1974.
Various vocational skills learned at Fargo North helped launch a lifelong career as a carpenter, builder and developer. Always ambitious and enterprising, even as a youth, Larry started Lake Home Improvement and Town and Country Construction, building homes, remodeling and various construction projects in the area.
Larry's successful work as a builder ultimately led him to Tharaldson Hospitality Development where he advanced in the company, and became an integral member of the Tharaldson management team as it grew into one of the largest hotel developers in the country Larry's relationship with Tharaldson continued for more than 30 years up until his cancer forced him to slow down and curtail his travel to sites.
Larry also developed Arrowwood Addition in Horace, developed, built, and owned the Fargo Hilton Garden Inn and the North Fargo Homewood Suites, and many other projects.
Among Larry's fondest memories was the family's decades-long connection to Rose Lake, near Vergas. His parents owned a lake home there, where the Madsons were seasonal residents from the early 1960's to 1984. Larry later returned to Rose Lake, building a lake home where he cherished his time with fiancée Laurel, family, and friends.
Not one to sit still, Larry was constantly busy with various projects at his home in Rose Creek, Fargo, and at the lake. A conservationist at heart, he planted hundreds of trees at his properties in the Rose Lake area of Vergas; and Larry often commented that he always strived to leave property, and the world in general, in better condition than he found it.
Larry met Laurel in 2000, and spent the next 25 years together, as they enjoyed traveling, laughing, going to concerts, spending time with family and friends, and building their life together.
Larry is survived by fiancé, Laurel Mahan; his son, Edward (Heather Robichaux); and grandson, Charlie Burch, Mandeville, LA; sister, Janice (Bill) Warner, Mpls.; Laurel's children, Brian (Amy) Mahan, Plymouth, MN, Kevin Mahan Kindred, ND and Christopher (Stephanie) Mahan, Minnetonka, MN; honorary grandchildren, Evan and Kieran Mahan, Genna and Cooper Mahan, Jack and Stella Mahan; and dogs, Layla and Lola.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Hazel Madson; and his sister, Sharon McLean.
