Kenneth George Kistner, 79, Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND, surrounded by loved ones.
Ken was born on August, 11, 1938, in Bethune, Saskatchewan, Canada, to George and Bertha Kistner. He was the fourth of five children – Mabel, Marjorie, Leonard, (Kenneth,) and Gordy.
He met his love, Sylvia Ivadel Kohl, in Regina, Saskatchewan. They married on July 1, 1960, and started their family shortly after. Curling was a passion for both of them, and they were very good. They brought home many trophies and won many championships throughout the years.
In 1971 when Ken’s employer, Westeel, opened a branch in Fargo they decided to make the move across the border, three kids in tow. Eventually Ken started his own business, Hydraulic Service, with his son, Kevin, and he happily served their customers until he retired.
Aside from their winter stays in Texas, Ken and Sylvia lived in Fargo until they officially moved to their cabin - that they built themselves - on South Lida. They both loved to sit on the deck (Ken with his coffee, Sylvia with her tea) and look out over their beautiful view of the lake, the majestic trees and Sylvia’s meticulously planted flowers, while watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and play. When Ken wasn’t observing nature, you could probably find him with a deck of cards - anxiously waiting to destroy his next opponent, or watching his beloved Minnesota Twins from his favorite lounger.
Ken is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia, their three children: Kevin (Frances), Kim Greskowiak (Brad) and Lance (Janelle), 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his brother Leonard (Mildred), his sister Marjorie Behrman (Gerald), his brother Gordy (Dixie), and his brother-in-law Carl Richter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Bertha, his sister Mabel Richter, and his grandson-in-law, Leo John Hoepfner.
He truly was a light in this world to those who knew him and he will be sorely missed and forever treasured.
