On Saturday, July 29, 2017, Kay York, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at Eventide in Fargo. She will be forever remembered by her daughter, Lynn, granddaughter, Kelly Miller, grandson, Andrew Wilker, great grandson, Quentin Miller and many caring nieces and nephews.
O. Kathryn Mueller was born on July 3, 1923 to Sophie and Joe Mueller. She grew up in Goodrich, ND. As a girl, she loved to roller-skate all over town. She loved to crochet and was a very fast runner. She graduated from Goodrich High School and went to Interstate Business College. While attending school she met Leonard York at a dry cleaner when she went to pick up a coat. He said it was not ready and he would deliver it. So began one of the greatest love stories. They were married April 25, 1943.
During WWII my dad was in the Navy. My mother followed him from port to port, working in different insurance offices. After the war, they settled in Minneapolis then in Oklahoma City, OK. In the 60’s they moved back to Fargo to be closer to family. In Fargo, Kay worked in insurance for many years. My parents enjoyed playing bridge, going to the Eagles and being with family. Their marriage was one of undying devotion; they never gave up on one another.
Kay is survived by siblings, Dolly Just (Jerry) and Harold Mueller (Shirley) and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, and the love of her life, Leonard York; beloved son, Timothy; her parents and siblings, Rip Mueller (Viola) and Richard Mueller (Toots).
Special recognition and gratitude is extended to Jeff York and wife Kathy and Shirley Mueller for being there. Many thanks to Eventide on 51st Street. Their staff on One West went above and beyond caring for Kay and her family.
