Janice Ekern

Janice D. Ekern, 70, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Janice Darlene Louise Schiernbeck was born February 21, 1938, in Grygla, Minnesota, daughter of Wulf and Erna (Carl) Schiernbeck. She attended rural school near Dickey, North Dakota. Her family moved to Valley City, North Dakota in 1949. She graduated from College High School in Valley City, ND. Janice married Elmer Ekern January 29, 1956, in Valley City, ND. She worked in retail sales for Woolworth’s Department Store for 16 years and Herberger’s for 18 years. Janice is survived by her husband, Elmer, Fargo, ND; two daughters, Julie (Kimball) Lutovsky, Grafton, ND; and Jaci Ekern, Harlingen, TX; a brother, Dennis (Kay) Schiernbeck, Janesville, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Garrett and Jordan Lutovsky. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Service: Friday, April 4, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at St. John Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Thursday, April 3, 2008, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Prayer Service: Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Valley City Memory Gardens, Valley City, ND.
