Jan Duane Titus, 71, of Fargo, ND, passed away at his home on May 13, 2026.
Jan was born on March 27, 1955, in Lisbon, ND, to Wallace and Ethel Titus. He grew up in Enderlin, ND, graduating from Enderlin High School in 1973. He went on to earn a teaching degree from Valley City State College in 1980 and spent several years teaching high school English and History in Makoti and Crosby, ND, as well as Karlstad, MN. In 1990, he graduated from Luther Seminary. Most recently, Jan worked for PepsiCo.
On August 1, 2013, Jan married Robert ("Bob") Stone. The two proudly stood first in line at the Clay County Courthouse at midnight on the day same‑sex marriage became legal. Through their marriage, Jan gained a stepson, Bret, and his family. Together, Jan and Bob were active in the LGBTQ community and were founding members of the FM Men's Gay Chorus.
Jan lived a life full of curiosity, service, and creativity. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and participating in mission trips to Guatemala with Sister Parish. He was involved in Via de Cristo, volunteered at the AMVETS-where he especially enjoyed Wednesday night meals and helping with Saturday burgers-and collected nativity sets. Photography was another passion he carried throughout his life. Jan and Bob were also deeply engaged in each other's church communities.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister‑in‑law, Sharon Titus; and his beloved husband, Bob.
He is survived by his stepson, Bret, and grandchildren Alex, Cassandra, and Tierney of Katy, TX; his sister, Vickie Titus and her son, Jeff, of Rothsay, MN; his brother, William (Bill) of Willmar, MN, and his sons, Wally (Amanda) and their daughters, Evelyn and Madelyn, of Spicer, MN, and Brian and his son, Victor, of Minot, ND; his brother, Jay (Terry) of Frontier, ND, and their children, Dain of Fargo, ND, and Marissa (Nick) Kemper and their son, Walker, of Moorhead, MN; and his sister, Judy Titus and her son, Nick, of Harvey, ND.
Jan will be remembered for his kindness, his faith, his music, and the joy he brought to the people and communities he loved.
