Irene Opp, 85, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Essentia Health, Fargo.
Irene was born February 24, 1927 near Streeter, ND. She married Dick Opp on September 30, 1948 in Medina, ND. They lived in Jamestown, ND and later moved to Fargo, where they owned Main Avenue Super Fair for a number of years. She was later a bookkeeper at the Red Owl Grocery Store in Fargo until her retirement in 1982. At that time, they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where they owned and operated Meadow Lake Campground.
Irene was an avid card player and enjoyed winters in Arizona for 32 years. Meadow Lake was a big part of her life until her death.
Irene is survived by a son, Richard (Melanie) Opp, Detroit Lakes, MN; a daughter, Melda (Craig) Young, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Frey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; and eight siblings.
In lieu of gifts of money or flowers, the family would like donations to go to the American Cancer Society in memory of Irene.
