Obituary

Ione Jeanette Swanstrom, 103, entered her heavenly home on June 25, 2026, at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND.

Ione was born September 10, 1922, in Verona, ND, to Perry and Josephine Peterson. Raised on the family farm, she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and caring for others that guided her throughout life.

She married Orville Swanstrom, and together they made their home in Fargo, ND, where they raised their family. Ione was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who found great joy in time with loved ones.

She is survived by her children, Paul Swanstrom of Fargo, ND, Patty Hendricksen (Daryl) of Moorhead, MN, Brenda Leigh (Greg) of Maple Grove, MN, and Scott Swanstrom (Gayle) of Fargo, ND; her grandchildren, Kerry, Dustin, Shayna, Travis, and Sara; and her great-grandchildren, Kamia, Henry, Brynn, Halle, Sophia, Jackson, and Micah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Swanstrom; her parents, Perry and Josephine Peterson; and her sisters, Doris Lomsdal and Joyce McCleary.

A longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo, Ione lived a life rooted in faith. She was active in women's prayer groups and faithfully prayed for others, offering compassion, encouragement, and quiet strength.

Ione was known for her caring heart and generous hospitality, welcoming family, friends, and visitors with coffee, homemade treats, and warmth. She treasured family gatherings and created lasting traditions and memories.

She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, traveling with loved ones, and offering steady support and prayer in both joyful and difficult times.

Her kindness, humility, and love for her family leave a lasting legacy of faith, compassion, and hospitality.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Eventide Sheyenne Crossings and the HIA Hospice caregivers whose care brought comfort during Ione's final days.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
