Hulda Moeckel

Hulda “Holly” Moeckel, 91, Fargo, ND, died peacefully Friday, April 4, 2008, in the MeritCare Hospital, Palliative Unit, Fargo. Hulda was born September 3, 1916, to Gottlieb and Martha Siewert in Logan County, near Wishek, ND. She married Hugo Moeckel, Sr. in 1936, and they lived in Wishek, ND. They moved to Napoleon, ND, in 1938, where the family resided until 1958. Her husband, Hugo, died from cancer in 1956. In 1958, Hulda, and her three children, moved to Fargo, ND. Hulda worked at the Gardner Hotel, Jerry’s Markets and St. Luke’s Hospital, now MeritCare. She retired in 1981. Her life was focused on family. We all knew one thing for sure, she loved us unconditionally. She nurtured, supported, challenged and sustained us. She was a reliable, self-sufficient, hard working, strong, honest women. Hulda’s fairness, kindness, compassion, courage and persistence were second to none. Hulda’s artistic talents were expressed through her clothing designs, jewelry and hats. She loved fashion and was always elegantly dressed. She also knew how to make any home comfortable and stylish. A meticulous housekeeper, she loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed music, played the piano and sang in church choirs. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, attending grandchildren’s activities, movies, reading, playing cards and watching the news and Larry King on tv. Hulda’s wish was to stay in her home until she died. Her wish was granted. She spent five days in the hospital, before she died on Friday. Hulda was unique, the likes of which will not soon pass this way again. Blessed be her memory as we celebrate her life. We love and miss her very much. She will be in our hearts forever. Hulda is survived by her three children, daughters, ArleJean Carlson, West Fargo, ND; Audrey Ann Peterson, Joshua Tree, CA; and son, Hugo (Carol) Moeckel, Moorhead, MN; four grandchildren, Dawn Walock, San Francisco, CA; JoDee (Jeremy) Wehrman, Fargo, ND; Grant (Marie) Moeckel, Minneapolis, MN; Camille (Jarad) Niemi, Durham, NC; one great-grandson, Corbin Moeckel, Minneapolis, MN; and one step-granddaughter, Kourtney Wehrman, Minot, ND; brother, LeRoy Siewert, Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Jeanette (Marvin) Weisser, Richfield, MN: Virginia Siewert, Seattle, WA; and Kathryn Siewert, Seattle, WA.
