Hjordis Eleanor Root

Hjordis (Joey) Eleanor Kvebak was born November 23, 1922 in Harwood, ND to Halvor and Emilie (Lia) Kvebak. She attended school at Sheyenne District 14.

Joey worked as a waitress at the Airport and The Bowler for many years. She also worked in security for JC Penny and DeLendrecies department stores, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, a former member of Osterdalen Church, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. A long-time resident of Heritage House, Joey had a wide range of friends in the community. Joey married Clifford Root on Feb. 15, 1975 in Fargo.

Joey died February 22, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Dianne) Vraa; step-children, Sharon (Larry) Christiansen, Vicki (Bradley) Holm, Terri (Jeff) Wells, and Michael (Christy) Root; grandchildren, Kristin, Rebecca, Erik; great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Majerle; and her sister, Maxine Hagle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents; siblings, Parker and Margaret; and her life-long friend, Lorraine Crowley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Pontoppidan Church or Osterdalen Cemetery Fund.
