Hilbert “Bert” Hagel, 73, died on January 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with cancer. Bert was born June 27, 1938, in Steele, ND, to Adolph and Katherina (Albright) Hagel and was the youngest of 15 children. He graduated from Tappen High School, where he played baseball and was captain of his basketball team. Bert joined the Army in January of 1957 and served as an MP at Fort Gordon, GA. After his discharge, he returned to ND where he met and married the love of his life, Kyle Good, on December 29, 1959. They moved to Fargo in 1961 where Bert worked for CLA for 45 years until starting his own business, Hagel Livestock, in 2006. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the AMVETS, and played softball in the Old Pro league. Bert is survived by his wife Kyle; three daughters Dawn (Ken) Howe of Fergus Falls, MN, Debbie (Jeff) Uline of Bismarck, ND, and Terri (Bruce) Messelt of Stillwater, MN; seven grandchildren Kacie (David) Schlecht, Bryce Uline, Alex and Kylie Howe, Katie, Ellie, and Annie Messelt; four great-grandchildren Faith, Ethan, Ian, and Garik Schlecht; brother Ferdinand (Doris) Hagel; sisters Leah Reuer and Emma Kramlich; sisters-in law Helen and Mamie Hagel; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral: Saturday, January 14, 2012, 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND. Visitation: Friday, January 13, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the church. Prayer Service: Friday, 7:00 PM at the church. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to Faith Lutheran Church for the purchase of beef to be given to a local shelter.
