Herman Novak passed on December 22, 2018 peacefully in his home, with family beside him, after an epic 3 year battle with cancer. This beloved man is survived by his wife Pat, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary last October; daughter, Heather Novak-Peterson and husband Doug Peterson with their daughters, Azia and Zoe; and their son, Todd Novak and wife Annie with their sons, Charlie and Alex, and daughters, Ella and Isabel, along with brothers, sisters and cousins of a large and beloved family stretching across many states.
Herman was the youngest of a family of 8, born in 1942 in Park River, North Dakota. He served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War, studied architecture and married Pat Novak, all by the year of 1968. He worked in Colorado, North Dakota and Minnesota.
He was a beloved friend to many that remember him by his wonderful smile and love for the beauty in life, family and design. He was an architect with an artist’s heart that was passionate about design and mentorship. Many describe him as the nicest and most dedicated architect they ever worked with. He helped to transform, design and restore buildings and spaces for nearly 50 years.
He is remembered as a very loved and wonderful friend, husband and dad that loved to design, draw and play with his grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Hospice are kindly suggested to honor all of those amazing people that helped him through his journey.
