Obituary

Herbert Leeland Larson, 81, of Fargo, ND, passed away to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Marana, AZ. He was surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice.

Herbert Leeland Larson was born January 2, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN to Herbert Leeland and Agnes Rose (Pillen) Larson. He grew up in Bismarck, ND and graduated from St. Mary’s High School where he participated in football and basketball. His basketball team of 1951 was inducted into the St. Mary’s Central High School Hall of Fame in 2006. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1957. While attending UND, he participated in men’s gymnastics. He served in the Korean War and returned to UND to work on his Master’s Degree, where he met his wife, Lois Thompson. They were married on August 6, 1961 in Grafton, ND.

Herb started his career as an assistant manager for JC Penney Company in Grafton. He then moved to Jamestown, ND and started a 32 year long career with Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance. His career with Lutheran Brotherhood brought him to Grand Forks, and eventually to Fargo. His hard work and dedication led him to achieve the Million Dollar Round Table Award yearly with LB. He purchased and managed Country Side Park in Fargo until his retirement in 2005.

Herb enjoyed life to the fullest and was thankful for everything. He was happiest being with family. He loved God, his family, friends, and was known for his passion for nature (the great outdoors). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, playing tennis, and horseback riding. During summers, the family would take month-long camping trips out West. They enjoyed hiking, campfires and park ranger nature talks. Dad received his Grand Slam award for sheep hunting in 1988 and is permanently recorded as the 437th recipient of the award. His hunting took him around the world.

Herb is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Paula Larson, Tucson, AZ; Tara Lynn (Chris) Harris, Fargo, ND; two granddaughters, Danielle and Taylor; and step-grandson, Rael.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Herb’s family would like to thank family and friends for their love and many acts of kindness throughout the years and for your presence here today. Please join us to celebrate Herb’s life.
