Harry W. Soberg

Harry W. Soberg, 83, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

Harry was born May 18, 1933 to Kenneth and Frances (Johnson) Soberg at their farm near Harwood, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at Osterdalen Lutheran Church in Argusville, ND. Harry attended school in Harwood, ND and graduated from Moorhead State High School in 1951. He attended college at Moorhead State University until he was drafted into the US Army at the age of 19. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Harry was united in marriage to Darline (Tiny) Evenson on December 5, 1954 in Colorado Springs, CO. They returned to Fargo, ND in 1955 to make their home and raise their three children.

Harry worked for AT &T for 31 years and retired in 1986. After retiring he helped his friends with farming and driving semi for several years.

Harry was a member of the Fargo American Legion, Moose Lodge and Fargo Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Neo Flying Club for several years. He was a member at Peace Lutheran Church and most recently a member at Hope Lutheran Church for the past several years.

Harry enjoyed watching all his children and grandchildren’s activities. He especially enjoyed and didn’t want to miss his son Barry’s wrestling matches. He attended many Fargo Legion baseball games for several years. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. His favorite of all teams to watch was the NDSU Bison football and basketball teams. Harry had a love and passion for hunting, fishing and flying his airplane. He also loved the game of cards, especially playing poker and Texas Hold’Em with several of his friends. He loved spending time with his family and was a mentor to many. He touched many peoples’ lives with his warm personality and witty sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by many.

Harry is survived by his wife, Darline (Tiny); 3 children: Terry Mulvaney, Fargo, ND, Barry (Joan) Soberg, Fargo, ND, Chery Eckre (Keith Berg-fiancé), Fargo, ND; 5 grandchildren: Tonya (Dave) Loken, West Fargo, ND, Brooke Eckre, Fargo, ND, Lucas Soberg, Fargo, ND, Breah Eckre, Fargo, ND and Eric Soberg, Fargo, ND. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Irene Sandvig, Fargo, ND and June (Don) Marks, Twin Valley, MN; 3 brothers, Sonny (Janie) Soberg, Fargo, ND, Dennis Soberg (Norma Barnard), Fargo, ND, Al (Nancy) Soberg, Joshua, TX, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Frances and 4 sisters: Lillian Sorlie, Delores Erickson, Barbara Meyers and Gloria Boettcher.
