Gregory DeForest Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 72, at Lilac Homes in Moorhead, Minnesota. Greg was born in Fargo, North Dakota, to Virginia and Arlie Johnson, the third of four boys. He graduated from Fargo South High School, where he first found his talent for construction work. What started as roofing jobs in high school grew into a lifelong career, and Greg took great pride in the skills he built through hard work, dedication, and experience.

Greg was known for his curious mind, his love of collecting, and the genuine enthusiasm he brought to the things that interested him. He especially enjoyed collecting automobiles in particular Hudsons, along with many other treasures that caught his eye. He loved to travel, discover new places, and spend time on the ski slopes in Aspen, Colorado where snow skiing became one of his favorite pastimes. Those who knew Greg will remember his interests, his independence, and the quiet joy he found in the pursuits he loved.

Greg is survived by his brothers, Arlie (Michelle) Johnson of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and James (Marianne) Johnson of West Fargo, North Dakota; his nieces and nephews, Joshua Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Allison Johnson-Henke, and Shannon Johnson Lichtman.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William, and by his parents, Arlie and Virginia.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at Lilac Homes in Moorhead and Sanford Hospital in West Fargo for the kindness and excellent care they provided Greg.
