Georgann Markel was born April 8, 1918 to Jenney (Herfendahl) and John Markel in St. Thomas, ND. She grew up and attended school. She was employed as a dental assistant for most of her working years. Before retiring, she also worked in sales at Squtt’s Fashion Store. She married Gerald B. Swits in Fargo on June 15, 1984. Georgann was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in many of the activities there.

Georgann died on August 7, 2012, at Bethany Homes in Fargo.

She is survived by three step-children Gerald Swits, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Dr. Debra Swits Lincoln of East Lansing, MI, and Paula (Frank) Hurley of Melbourne, Australia; sisters Donna (Ralph) Heiken of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jane (Arthur) Huber of Valley City, ND; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral: Tuesday, August 14, 2012, 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to services at the church.

Burial: Memory Gardens, Valley City, ND.
