Gary Michael Cumber, 59, of rural Harwood, ND, died at his home Sunday, May 10, 2009, of natural causes. Gary Michael Cumber was born November 18, 1949, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Robert and Alice (Lira) Cumber. He grew up on a farm near Montpelier, North Dakota, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1968. In the fall of 1968, Gary started school at NDSCS in Wahpeton, North Dakota, graduating two years later with an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanics. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970, serving one year in Vietnam, three years total. Upon his return to the U.S., he started working at the Fargo Post Office where he remained employed until the time of his death. He met Vicki Nelson in January 1975. They were married November 1976. Their union gave them three beautiful children: Katie, April and James. Gary was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and family camping trips every summer. Gary and his wife were dedicated motorcycle tourists, having frequently traveled the country with friends and family. Gary is survived by his wife, Vicki, Harwood, ND: daughterS, Katie and April; son, James, all of Fargo, ND; mother, Alice, West Fargo, ND; brother, Wayne (Jane) Cumber, West Fargo, ND; sisters, Jan (Richard) Homstad, Grand Forks, ND; and Carol (Craig Fairbanks) Cumber, Brookings, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; and an infant sisteR. Memorial Service: Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
