Elsie Anderson

July 3, 1916 — April 21, 2009

Elsie Anderson, 92, of Fargo, ND, died April 21, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Elsie Anderson was born July 3, 1916, in Battle Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Caroline (Glende) Anderson. She moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, as a child. She attended and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1934. After high school, she attended and graduated from Moorhead State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1936. After graduation, she taught in Tracy, Minnesota, for three years. She moved to Northfield, Minnesota, where she taught second grade for nine years. She then taught in St. Louis Park, Minnesota School District until her retirement in 1983. Second grade was always her love. She continued and completed her education for a Master’s degree at Mankato State College in Mankato, Minnesota. She lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for 40 years where she joined Mount Olivet Lutheran Church. She did volunteer work in the church library for many years and also served on many church committees. After retirement, Elsie moved to Fargo, North Dakota, and joined First Lutheran Church of Fargo. Due to poor health, her volunteer days were over. Elsie enjoyed spending time with her sisters, needlepoint, decorating for the holidays and her summers at Little Pine Lake in Minnesota. Her special friend, Dylan Gagner, was in kindergarten when he told his class about President Abe Lincoln from the time he was born until his death. Dylan said, “Lincoln was a very smart man. The smartest girl I know is Elsie, but she will never be president because she’s a girl.” Already, he is a politician. The love for her sisters will always endure. The love of family was first in her life. Elsie is survived by her sisters, Elvera Jacobson and Loraine Haas of Fargo, ND; two nephews, a niece and cousins. Special ladies in her life were Delphine, Pat “Poppo,” Hilde, Rae, Joan and Mary. They were her partners in the teaching profession. Thank you to her special helpers in her life Carelyn, Laura, Sylvia and Judy. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association. Private Family Funeral Service: Monday, April 27, 2009, at 7:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
