Elmer D. Henschel, 91, (formerly Devils Lake, ND) passed away Sunday, April 9 in Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.
Elmer was born July 17, 1925 in Starkweather, ND to Rudolph and Anna (Peters) Henschel. He graduated from Starkweather High School and later served in the US Navy.
Elmer was united in marriage to Lavina Mae Sand Landsgaard on April 11, 1955. Together they raised six children while living in Devils Lake, ND. Elmer was a longtime member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and he enjoyed gardening, square dancing, camping, fishing, and playing pinochle.
Elmer traveled the state of ND working for the USDA as a livestock inspector for 30 years. After retiring, Elmer and Lavina began spending winters in Arizona, eventually making their permanent residence in Apache Junction, AZ. Their summers were spent in ND and Minnesota visiting friends and relatives until 2010 when they moved to Fargo.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Lavina; sons, Robert, West Bend, WI, Duane (Janice), Devils Lake, Bradley (Denise), Fargo; daughters, Patti (Bryan) Smith, Horace, Sandra Henschel, Fargo; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings and their spouses; Robert (LaVonne), Herman (Ida), Roger, Delores (Richard) Nelson; and son, Terry.
