Elaine G. Brock, age 91, Fargo, died Saturday, September 10, 2016, under the care of family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 2:00 P.M., at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date.
Elaine was born on July 3, 1925, to George and Elida (Bien) Haroldson on the Bien family farm near Hillhead, SD. The family settled in Fargo, where Elaine attended school and worked for a short time before heading to the west coast in search of adventure. While working in Vancouver, Washington, Elaine met Jacob "Lee" Brock. They were united in marriage on January 29, 1946. By the end of the following year, Lee and Elaine welcomed their son, Dennis, and shortly thereafter moved to Fontana, California. Another move took the family to Portland, Oregon, before the family settled back in Fargo, where they remained, aside from a short time in Grand Forks.
Elaine worked several jobs throughout the years, including many years at Reed Cleaners. Her favorite role, however, was mother and grandmother. She delighted in supporting all of the children at endless rounds of hockey games, soccer tournaments, baseball games, and most recently, swim meets. She also played a key role in her great-grandchildren's lives, volunteering to care for them several days a week so that they could spend much of their pre-school years at home. The hours rocking babies, reading stories, making snacks, playing games, and soothing tears will never be forgotten by those who loved her best.
Elaine is survived by her son, Dennis Brock of Fargo; grandson, Dana (Kari) Brock of Fargo; four great-grandchildren: Alex, Matt, Libby, and Ryan; three sisters: Olive Kosen of Moorhead, MN, Alta Johnson of Waite Park, MN and Marlene Wahl of Circle, MT. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, George and Dick and sisters, Cassie and Georgie.
