Edina Grebović, 54, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, August 18th, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with a brain tumor and cancer.
Edina (Kusturica) Grebović was born on September 30th, 1970 to Ismet and Biba (Šarić) Kusturica in Mostar, Bosnia (former Yugoslavia). Edina would be the first of three daughters to Ismet and Biba. She attended school and grew to adulthood in Mostar, where she graduated in 1989 with an emphasis in nursing. She had planned on continuing her medical education, but political strife in Yugoslavia would soon change the hopes and dreams for everybody.
Edina met the love of her life, Alen, in 1992 and eventually married in February of 1994. In December of that same year, the two would welcome their first child, Nino. The first of many battles that Edina would fight was to help keep her family together safe during a time of uncertainty and confusion in Bosnia. Fortunately, the family (including her parents and sisters), were able to begin a new chapter in 1996, in Fargo. In 2000, Edina and Alen welcomed their second child, daughter Mia.
Edina’s new chapter also included a new career at the Villa Maria nursing home in Fargo, where she was able to put her nursing skills to work from 1996 until she retired in 2014.
Edina enjoyed spending time with family, and enjoyed reading novels (impressively, in two languages). She also loved cooking creative dishes for family and friends and created impressive mixtures of American and Balkan meals. She and Alen became enamored with American football, and although Alen fell in love with the Miami Dolphins, Edina would ultimately join the good side and took to the Vikings. She would not miss a game for the remainder of her life.
Edina is survived by her husband Alen; son, Nino; daughter, Mia; sister, Jasmine (Jesse) Gehrig, Maya (Ryan) Schmoll; sister-in-law Maja Šunjić; nephews Jayden, Gavin, and Easton Schmoll, all of Fargo. “Back home”, she is also survived by her aunt Indira; mother-in-law Slavica; uncle Asim; and nephews Marino and Nikola (all in Mostar).
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her father-in-law Mugdim; and several aunts and uncles.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, ND.
