Duane "Dewey" Olson

Duane K. Olson, 76, formerly of Fargo, passed away from heart failure on May 31, 2023, at St. Luke's Home, Dickinson, ND.

Duane "Dewey" Keith Olson was born on March 22, 1947, in Fargo, ND. He was the son of Oscar E. and Rose O. (Jordheim) Olson of rural West Fargo, ND.

He graduated from West Fargo High School in 1965, where he was on the varsity basketball team and also represented the Horace American Legion at Boys State. He worked for the US Postal Service while attending NDSU. He was a member of ROTC at NDSU. Duane graduated in 1970 with a degree in Biology. He taught at Emerado Elementary School, where he also coached basketball. He then taught at Hallock High School and coached junior football.

Duane married Cathy Meyer in 1970. They were parents of Stacy Lynn, who passed away in 2008.

He developed a chronic illness in the 1970s, which left him unable to continue teaching.

Duane worked in various restaurants in Fargo, including the Bowler, Phil Wong's, Elm Tree Terrace, Black Angus Restaurant, and many years at the Mandarin Restaurant.

When he was young, he loved hunting, taking his younger relatives fishing, and being in nature. In his later years, he enjoyed bingo and singing karaoke.

Duane is survived by a brother, Don (Tami), Billings, MT; sisters, Marilyn Bensen, Horace, and Linda Rekken, West Fargo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, sister Gerry Glemming, niece ReNae Gardner and brothers-in-law Wayne Rekken and Robert Bensen.

Burial will be at Horace Lutheran Cemetery, Horace, ND, at a later date.
