Donna Marie Mongeon (nee Hanson), 73, passed away at Sanford Hospice House on August 26, 2022 after a courageous 5 ½ year battle with cancer.

Donna was born on November 11, 1948 to Ada and Donald Hanson in Sherwood, North Dakota. She was the 2nd of four daughters and grew up on the family farm surrounded by lots of family. Donna graduated from Sherwood High School in 1966 and attended Minot State University where she obtained an Associate’s degree in Secretarial Studies. It was there that she met the love of her life and soulmate, Wendel Mongeon. She and Wendel married on June 27, 1969 in Minot which began their 53-year family journey together.

Donna and Wendel welcomed three daughters who Donna loved and doted over her entire life. Family and friends were the cornerstone of who Donna was. Donna brought a light to every room she entered. She was extremely social and had a smile and a joke for everyone. Donna was funny and quick-witted, and it didn’t matter if you knew her for five minutes or five years, she called you a friend.

Donna and Wendel made their home in Bismarck, ND for 16 years where she worked as a Library Aide at Highland Acres Elementary School. In 1989, Donna and Wendel moved to Fargo where she worked as a Library Aide for McKinley Elementary school until she retired in 1997.

Donna spent her time socializing in any way she could whether it be lunch dates, book clubs, or playing cards with their many, many friends. She loved her children and grandchildren and traveled across the Midwest to spend time with them. She rarely missed a sporting event, musical or choir concert of any of her grandchildren and beamed with pride whenever talking about her family.

We are eternally grateful for all the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Sanford Hospice who not only cared for Donna for the last 5 ½ years but became dear friends.

A Prayer Service and visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home located at 215 S. 7th Street, Fargo, ND. The service will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, South Campus at 3636 25th St. S. Fargo, ND.

She is survived by her husband Wendel, daughters Leia (Erik) Skie, Karla (Justin) Stewart, Kari (Trevor) Wahlen; grandchildren, Taylor and Kylie Skie, Bailey, Berlyn and Ryder Stewart, Madi, Zach and Emily Wahlen; her sisters, Karen (Jerry) Price, Shirley (Gary) Olmsted, and Bonnie (Rick) Loomis; her uncle Robert (Bob) Hanson, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends that were as close as family.
