Donald Ommodt, age 87, passed away on December 27, 2018 at Bethany under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Donald “Don” Henry Ommodt was born the only child of Henry and Mabel (Kvidt) Ommodt on July 7, 1931 in Flom, MN. He grew up in Flom and attended Waubun High School and then later Twin Valley High School where he graduated in 1949. He then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo for two years and worked at the Farmers State Bank in Waubun, MN for 2 and a half years. In 1953 he took a position with Cass-Clay Creamery in Moorhead, MN. He worked his way up through the company at a variety of positions and was named as the General Manager in 1965 and President in 1983, a position he retained until he retired in 1997. In addition to leading Cass-Clay for over 30 years, he was active in a wide variety of state and national dairy industry and trade groups. He also was a member of the board of directors for both Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Dakota for approximately 17 years.
Don was a very active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Moorhead and later Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo. He served in a variety of roles at both churches and was in charge of the television ministry at Messiah for over 30 years right up until the time of his death.
He married Evelyn (Blilie) in 1957 in Comstock, MN. They first met when Evelyn worked as a teller at a bank where Don made Cass-Clay deposits. They first lived in Moorhead, MN and then moved to Fargo, ND in 1967 and have four children. He and Evelyn have been passionate about spending time with each and every one of their children and grandchildren.
Grateful to have shared his life, he is survived by his wife Evelyn, children Linette (Steven) Hartman of Fargo, ND, Kevin (Tammy) Ommodt of Allen, TX, Lee Ann (Michael) Leech, and Jodi Ommodt, both of Prior Lake MN; and 6 beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Tyler Hartman, Alyssa and Ashlee Leech, and Logan and Marissa Ommodt.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mabel Ommodt.
