Derald George Barge, Fargo, ND, died November 25, 2010. He was born April 17, 1930 in St. James, MN to George and Mildred (Man) Barge. He grew up in St. James and attended school there graduating in 1948. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and spent some time in Okinawa. He was discharged in 1951 and began working at the Tubular Micrometer plant in St. James On July 12, 1952, he married Marilyn Laingen in Odin, MN and they lived in St. James until 1955. Derald started working for General Foods whom he worked for 30 years until his retirement. The family moved to Willmar in 1955 and lived there until 1968, when they moved to Fargo, ND. The family, who always meant so much to him now included wife, Marilyn, daughter, Deb and sons, Mike and Dave. After retirement he could spend more time enjoying golf and his family which also now included two very special grandsons, Danny and Matt. Derald also began helping with the junior golf program at the Fargo Country Club every summer. He also became the assistant men’s golf coach at NDSU, becoming the head coach in 1996 until 2001. Because of their deep interest in golf and young people Derald and Marilyn started a golf endowment fund at NDSU. Derald is survived by one daughter, Deb Bakko; two sons, Mike in Minneapolis and Dave in Fargo and two grandsons, Danny (Shannon) and Matt in Fargo. Also surviving him is a brother, Gene in Minneapolis, a sister-in-law, Barb (Lynn) Walker of Midland, Michigan and a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, his parents and a sister-in-law, Eloise Barge. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the NDSU Marilyn and Derald Barge Golf Endowment Fund.
