Dennis Halldorson, 83, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Sanford Broadway Medical Center.
Dennis Johann Halldorson was born to Thorgils and Johanna Halldorson on August 13, 1942. He grew up in the Icelandic community of Mountain, North Dakota, and graduated from Mountain High School in 1960. He was lucky to be raised with 5 siblings who all survive him: Ken (Karen) Halldorson of Bismarck; Bobby Halldorson of Edinburg; Barney Halldorson of Bismarck; Joanne (Vern) Fleming of Mesa, AZ; and Marlene (Orville) Simundson of Cavalier.
Dennis and his best buddy dated sisters from Cavalier and both married them! Dennis and Mary (Martin) were married on June 13, 1962. They had 39 happily married years together until Mary passed in 2002. They had two daughters, Kristi (Doug) Barta of Parker, CO, and Traci (Dave) Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN.
Dennis started his career in the construction field by working for Hanson Construction in Walhalla, ND. He later started Halldorson Construction. He built many homes and beautiful custom cabinets in the Walhalla area. He continued woodworking over the years, but more as a hobby. He created treasured gifts for family and friends. In the 1990's, he shifted his work to the crop insurance field. He and Mary moved to Fargo in 1995, and he was employed for many years in management at Nodak Mutual.
Dennis is also survived by his grandchildren, Nick (Kelsey) Maxon and daughter, Poppy; Dylan (Jordan) Altonen and their children, Gunnar and Kora; Ryan Barta and his fiance, Maddie; and Lucas Barta. Mary's family remained important in his life: Sandy, Ruth, Ethel, Myles, Linda, and Bob. His best buddies (The Breakfast Club), Al, Dorne, and Roger, were a staple in his life over the years. He treasured his family and friends.
