Debra "Debbie" Fahey, 73, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, surrounded by her family.
Debra Jean Fahey was born on September 12, 1952, in Devils Lake, ND, to Robert and Greta (Lee) Fahey. She began first grade in Valley City before her family moved to Fargo in 1960. There, she attended Hawthorne Grade School, Ben Franklin Middle School, and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1970. She later attended Moorhead Technical School and proudly served in the Air National Guard for two years.
In 1973, Debbie welcomed her daughter, Krista, followed by her son, Jared, in 1977. As a dedicated single mother, she worked hard to build a good life for her children. They were always her greatest priority, and she made countless sacrifices to ensure they were cared for and had every opportunity to succeed.
Debbie devoted 32 years of her career to Cass County Social Services, serving as an eligibility worker. She found fulfillment in helping others navigate difficult situations and connecting them with the resources they needed. Her compassion extended well beyond her profession. She was generous by nature, often donating to others and quietly looking for ways to help those around her.
Nothing brought Debbie more joy than her family. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she loved celebrating the season with those she loved. Her grandson, Brady, was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment she spent with him.
The passing of her son, Jared, in 2015 was the greatest heartbreak of Debbie's life. Though she carried that loss every day, she never stopped honoring his memory and speaking of him with love.
Debbie also enjoyed following fellow North Dakotan Josh Duhamel and was always interested in what he was doing. In recent months, her puppy, Maggie Jo, became a constant companion and brought her comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.
Debbie was preceded in death by her son, Jared Fahey; her father, Robert Fahey; and her nephew, Jason Schroeder.
She is survived by her daughter, Krista (Mike) Berg of Prosper, ND; her mother, Greta (Verdell) Taylor; her grandson, Brady (Anna Soderholm) Dukart; her siblings, Roberta Schroeder, Karen Fahey, Monice Blose, and Thomas (Charlene) Fahey; her beloved dog, Maggie Jo; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Fargo, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo.
Arrangements entrusted to Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
